Android Lockdown | Keep Android Open Initiative

If they are going to tax any product, they have to police it properly, otherwise it creates a black market.
Our high tax on tobacco products is effectively a prohibition. We have not learnt from the US experience.

This isn’t about protection at all. There are better ways to protect kids that already exist. That’s just an excuse to force everyone to have a public facing digital ID. This is the end of privacy - which is the bedrock of all other freedoms. There can be no confidential sources or whistle blowers, nothing the state (and big corporations) won’t know and use for control and marketing. Please don’t fall for this. It wil create a panopticon from which there is no escape.

For the things that require ID, there are now DIDs (decentralized IDs) that remain local to each user and only transmit ZKPs (zero knowledge proofs) that prove facts like are you over 21 with a yes or a no without revealing any underlying data and only to whom you want to reveal it to, when you want to reveal it, with optional expiration dates. This enhances self sovereignty and privacy instead of eliminating it. See Midnight.Network and the Digital Identity Foundation. https://identity.foundation/

No cost except the total end of freedom. See my reply to Neville elsewhere in this thread.

What is there to stop a central database like this sharing or selling the info it holds ?

Protection from hackers ?

The difficulty with any on line system is control.

In principal we have something similar here using france connect which then allows access to government sites such as tax, laposte also offers the same. Fine for me, but when I want to access a UK government site I no longer have a UK mobile phone number so cannot register or update my details but more important cannot access pension or tax records.

Control is great but sometimes is not flexible to cover all bases

You can start with NewPipe, a great tool for accessing YouTube.

Why not just go direct to YouTube or does that not exist on your system ?

Um, did you post this in the wrong topic?
It does not seem to fit with Android Lockdown?

I like NewPipe as it’s lightweight, more privacy friendly than YouTube direct, and it gives you features that used to be available for everyone but are now locked behind a subscription, like play in background.

And many happy returns for your birthday, Paul!

Go to YouTube and select a channel you subscribe to. Try to watch the videos in chronological order without searching for the next one every time. That’s easy in NewPipe.

I never do that, just drop into youtube to watch one thing at random.
