To convert LaTeX to HTML consider also using HeVeA (from INRIA in France).

I was a kid at the time, worried only with computer games. But, yes, I remember dialing in with those whopping 56kbps. It would be fun if you had the wrong number at 3am and somebody picked up the phone.
