Clean install, no upgrade, with separate /Home partition

I’d say, you should just create the final backup before installation and then proceed, so you can just test how everything works.

Main thing is , does it separate dependencies from packages you need to reinstall

I opened the file and it’s just a list, including dependencies, of everything I manually installed. Lots of python things. No links to sources. So I would just go through the list as I realize something is missing and install it, hopefully the same way I did before.

Thats about the best you can do.

I am relieved to say that it installed as harmlessly as y’all were saying. Total time for install and adding my manually installed programs, including configuring the HP printer, was just over two hours. Many settings just showed up, like magic (delighted in the extreme by GPodder!), while others, like grub-customizer, begged for a clean redesign.
There may be a stray here and there, but this is as I got used to.

Congratulations Cliff, you need to do it more often.
Your planning certainly helped
