The second one is well written.
The main benefit of rewriting things in rust seems to be getting practice with rust
Noone seems to have anything to say about writing new apps in rust… they all want to rewrite old code.
What does this say about the creative ability of rust programmers?
I thought it was well written too.
What I took from it was that anyone can write anything in any language they want to. No one has to use it. If it’s useful or better than something else, people will use it. In this case, Ubuntu has decided they think it’s a good product and will use it. These core utilities have not been the source of many security issues, thank God, but it’s OK with me if they are rewritten. A rewrite could introduce new issues. It could also uncover unknown existing issues. I still think it’s worth it.
Pretty sure we can’t generalize that Rust programmers aren’t creative. They’d probably rather write something that is new and innovative. Instead, they’re trying to do something they believe is important. I don’t understand the resistance, I guess.
Rust isn’t magic. You can do it wrong, I’m sure. But it gives the programmer a better chance of not messing up. That seems like a good thing.
I am just having a dig. Sooner or later we will get a new creative rust effort
I think my resistance is fading.
It would help to do something in rust… but I am rather committed to Julia right now.
For me , Julia is more important.
