Hi Paul,

I am so embarrassed and can hardly believe I did it!
Yesterday I was doing a search for something and saw a very good price.
I clicked on it and up came a the site that had a large national company logo on it.
I purchased the item with PayPal. It was for less then $100 US.

The good news.
Something bothered me about the site.
In less then 3 hours, I checked the site and it is a scam site.
I notify PayPal and received a refund.

I just did what I tell other people about being careful and going to the actual web site to do business.
And to watch out for fake email and fake web site that look official.

Feel like kicking myself in the A**.

Take care,
Howard

No such thing as a free lunch !

Thanks for sharing your experience, we live and learn. Its so hard to spot what is real and fake with logos, search engines pointing you to them …

Its tax season here and i got a mail from our tax man saying he sent me a message, my wife said attention false so did not follow the link but went direct to the government site. Of course forgot my password, tried reset and they promised a link email, but to an account i dont use or have access to … needed a call to the service to reset the account. This was done in rapid french luckily my wife is french so did the call but they needed to know it was really me calling, took 3 attempts on my part to understand the question but with some prompting from my wife i understood the question but then they could not understand my accent. 40 mins later I could reset my account only to find the message was a we have received your on line submission. What a waste.

Imagine them not understanding my French with a Yorkshire accent.

I speak french like a spanish cow …

We get a bill from our Telco once a month… along with 2 or 3 fake bills pretending to be the Telco. It is getting harder to pick the real bill… the imitators are getting cleverer each month… they copy logos and layouts.
The givaway is the payment options… I dont pay online… I print it and pay at the local Post Office. Maybe that costs more trees, but it is safer.
Where possible, I ask for paper bills in the snail mail. I have never received an imitation bill on paper. They dont do it because it costs… Email being free is the cause of the problem.

Hi Paul,

What even bothers me then more going to the fake web site?
I know better.
I am 74 and is going to this fake site a sign I am losing some of my reasoning ability?
I hope that’s not the case.

Dont worry …

Send me a cheque for 500 euros and i will certify you are in good health, then change your will to leave everything to me !

Ha ha ha

No seriously I think its a worry for all of us getting older and not being fully in control of everything. Important to keep active both physically and mentally, being part of sites like this one should help test your knowledge or learning a new language any mental aid.

You’re in good company, Howard. Many of us are going through our 20s for the third time.

Would you really want to go back to being 20 again ?
Imagine the pressure, getting a job, marriage, buying a house car having a family
All that responsibility and no time to go play out.
Plus trying to keep up to date on technology whilst working

For me its the thought of having a boss and having to do as i am told could not go back to that, been working for my self for over 25 years so to much of a rebel. Today if i have a client I dont like I turn them away … could not do that if the money really mattered

Agree 100%
Do something challenging mentally and physically every day.
Today I plan to trim donkeys feet and do some work on S6 init system… plus the housework that seems to be always with us.

As I approach my third 26th birthday, I find I don’t even remember clearly the angst you speak of, Paul, although I’m sure I felt it at the time. I do remember, however, how good it felt to throw the boss’s calendar in the recycle bin when I retired.

My current boss is much kinder, although she’s almost as old as I am and therefore pretty feeble. Not less mean, of course.

Well done for arriving at such a place in life, suspect i may not get to that celebration no matter how hard i try and how much exercises i do the bits stop working.

I too have a great boss at home, i never realised how much i needed to know before we met, but she reminds me most days. Best of all just when i think i have a little time to sit and contemplate she finds me more to occupy my hours and days.

When i got married to my current wife I received a book from our mayor which is normal in France where everything is listed, marriages kids etc its called a book of family (livre de famille)

As our mayor is a personal friend before the ceremony I obtained the book and added a few post it notes to the pages, which he thought was really funny and read them out at the wedding, it was written in french

On page 1, the wife is always right
Page 2 , no matter what she is right
Page 3 if in doubt refer to page one

En page 1, la femme a toujours raison
Page 2, peu importe ce qu’elle a raison
Page 3 en cas de doute, reportez-vous à la première page …

Now if only i could find the book and be able to translate it from french perhaps i would understand more…
