That “question” (???) was answered quite a long time ago.

Happy new year to all!
Even longer since I listened to that track thanks for the memory
In the late noughties (circa 2008/2009) I built 3 desktop PCs for my two daughters and missus…
Installed Windows XP, then setup dual boot with Ubuntu on one, and used ghost to clone across to the other two…
They refused to use the Ubuntu install…
My wife doesn’t even use a computer any more - just her iPad… Daughters have Macs…
More evidence that Linux resistance is gender based.
Do Linux DE’s perhaps have a gender problem?
I try to take this as a joke ![]()
My wife may be an exception, she just uses whatever she gets. However, it’s up to me to help her if something happens which she didn’t expect to happen or something did not happen what she expected to happen ![]()
She has now a Win 11 in a VM for her homeoffice works, so sometimes she changes between Windows / Linux back and forth couple times in 10 minutes, and no problem with that ![]()
Otherwise, if the statement is serious: I know numerous male beings who refuse to even to try Linux. ![]()
Do not we all!!! Myself included on one of my machines!!!
Only half serious. It seemed that a pattern was emerging, but you have broken it.
My wife uses anything , but mostly Android.
At work we used to have a team of female computer technicians… they were very competent BSD users and they could program.
Bletchley Circle
I have watched that.
Look up Ada Lovelace.
Hidden Figures.
Excellent movie! Their job title was Computer, as I remember.
Not only a good movie about women, but smart black woman.
When you think of the racial tension in the USA it was an interesting film and proved just how far they could go. I found it by accident looking at the local cinéma program offered by the cultural societ in our town. Informative educational glad I went.
I have tried to get girlfriend to use the Linux mint I added to her aged W10 laptop, but she simply won’t.
New laptops all appear to be over USD1000 lately (tariffs?) so I doubt she’ll quit using it until it’s crypto-locked. Strange thing is she uses few things (Word, Pdf, browser) that aren’t ubiquitous in Linux, in some cases even better!
I have same problems with my wife despite giving her a better quality faster more stockage laptop with mint on. She only uses it to stock photos
No changing some but suspect its because her old windows computer came from her son
I have same problem as Paul. Wife refuses to even look at or consider Linux.
She will use her Win 10 laptop until it dies (it may get a little help). But even then she will just use a laptop with Win 11 on it.
At least I have confirmed with my wife that it will never run 11 even if the internet says it will.
But I did say you want it you install it and get it working.
But first you are going to have to backup your files and gain some space.
You should never try to teach your wife to drive ….. think computing comes in to this just the same
Fun fact: my missus hadn’t driven a car for 15 years but last week when we were at gym I went sitting to the co-driver’s side (because you always wait for them..) and she went to driver’s seat and drove home. Her earlier laptop was a spud and I installed an ChromeOS kind of FOSS system to it when Win didn’t run on it anymore. She used it till she bought a refurbished Thinkpad with W10. Don’t know if it’s still on W10. I just wait for the question “why this won’t boot?” and then I’ll install Linux on it.
They can adapt but it’s not always easy ![]()
In no way do i want to imply our female compagnons are difficult, some move faster in technology than we do, my wife uses AI almost on a daily basis where I have only tried it twice. We do have a selection of members from the opposite sex and we very much appreciate there contributions.
My wife is far better than I will ever be at languages, art design subjects.
Back to the venus and mars idea.
The plot thickens. I noticed my desktop is running 24H2. I tried updating to the current stable (25H2) and got an error to use the PC Health Check app.
Health check says no go due to my TPM and processor being old. 24H2 is only supported until October. Basically they let me upgrade to Windows 11 for the same length of time as Win 10 support was extended.
I wonder if we’ll see some sort of change in Microsoft’s position within the next month or so.
I read where Win 10 support has been extended for another year to Oct 2027. Also there is a work around to get 25H2 loaded if you want the info.
