For me, it only works with youtube.com links, not youtu.be. Maybe curl the youtu.be and use the redirect link.

It is web based. Their website does the download for you.
That means it should work on any system, even Android.
I will give it a test. For a job like that I will use anything that works.

I am not using this because they have too many ads on the website, which is irritating for me as a user.

Even when I convert that short URL to the full youtube.com URL - it still fails :

Funny. Exact same command works on my openSUSE.
