Never - I’d rather go back to dial up - than fund a wannabe trillionaire who’s happy to sit on 500+ billion dollars while people go hungry… It’s obscene… Sorry…

Not only that - the Starlink satellites are obscuring astronomer’s observations…

Capitalism stinks - what are the alternatives? Sure the alternatives were done to death by the likes of Stalin…

But take a look at small “s” democratic socialism as practised in much of Scandinavia (which Finland is considered a part of and which gave us the Linux kernel - for free)…

So do all the satellite…… are there other alternative solutions ?

It was just the first I found

Chesterton thought the alternative was what he called ’ distributism’ … everyone owns a part of the means of production.
I guess the modern equivalent would be ‘small business’ but with everyone participating.

Yes, but there are many more starlink satellites so their effect is more noticeable.

Satellites are not a low cost solution and they are affected by weather conditions.

I think the alternative in Australia wiil be G5 mobile networks

But for that dont you need a lot of pôles to broadcast the signal and fibre to transfer to them ? With a country like Australie where there are such large parts where no one lives its a big distributions problem.

Where I lived before there was a section where it was considered not worth the investment to get fibre to the village so they installed another form ”wimax” (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and that was ok for some time but now replaced by fibre as costs have reduced.

Hi Rosika,

Late to the conversation, but I also like to reference some of the postings here on the forum. I use the bookmark feature here on ‘It’s Foss’ to tag articles I wish to reference at a later date.

I will also sometimes copy / paste code and/or information from the forum to be saved on my personal PC.

I really do not know why anyone would be offended if we use the information for our own personal use.

Best wishes,
Howard

Hi Howard,
That is fine… anything posted is in the public domain.

I must try this bookmark tool on the forum. That would help me… I often have to search.

Neville

Hi Howard, :waving_hand:

thanks a lot for your kind words.

I´ve never done that, because I didn´t know this option existed.
Could you explain how it is done?

Thanks and many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Neville, :waving_hand:

thanks for looking it up.
I was doing the same but couldn´t find anything to that effect either.

I half feared there existed an option which has been eluding me all the time.

That would make sense.
Thanks for your help, Neville.

Cheers from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

No, the bookmark I use is not from my browser. It is located under the 3 dots right by the flag for flagging a post,

Hi Howard, :waving_hand:

Ah, now I found it. Thank you very much for explaining the exact procedure.
Well, this has totally escaped my attention.
As a test I just bookmarked your reply.

Thanks again.

Many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

It says ‘link copied’
OK, then I can past it somewhere.
Here is yours

Thank you… I have been wanting to know how to get the link to a specific reply within a topic

Ah, I see. You went to the left. But now I lean something new. To the left of the little flag “copy a link” option. I have not used that option yet.

I was referring to the icon to the right “bookmark this post”.

The lines below were accidentally edited in by me (Neville) .Apologies Howard

On my screen the item to the right is the ‘pen’ symbol that opens an edit window?
The next one after that is a ‘bookmark’
Found it… thanks

Looks like we all need a practice run with these symbols.

Next problem. After I bookmark something, how do I access a list of bookmarks?

Hi Howard, :waving_hand:

I think it´s easy. Here´s how I do it:

  1. Click on your personal icon on the upper right corner of the community page.
Here you can choose from a variety of options. It´s the fifth one from above.
Hovering the mouse pointer over it tells you “Bookmarks”.

Just click on it and you´re presented with all bookmarked topics. With me it´s presently just one:
Click on the selected topic (post) and you´re immediately redirected to the exact post number you´ve bookmarked.

Many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Rosika,
Hey, it looks like I accidentally edited Howard’s reply. … I can do that as a moderator.
and now, you have replied to Howard , instead of to me.

@easyt50… Howard, I have to apologise I accidentally edited your reply .
I will edit it again and mark the sentence I added. I hope I did not remove anything.?

I need to be more careful

@Rosika … Thank you, I can find my bookmarks now

Sorry for the confusion and the intrusion.
I can not imagine how I made that mistake… changing someone’s reply is not something I would want to do.
Did you get a notification that I had edited your post?

Hi @nevj and @easyt50 :slightly_smiling_face:

No problem on my part, Neville.
I´m sure Howard won´t mind.
Things like that can happen…

I´m glad I could be of some assistance.

Many greetings to both of you from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:
