LOL … I use to write CICS programs and install (gen) CICS. But that was a long, long time ago.
Had to look it up. Was never exposed to CICS.
It has a long history.
The scientific computing world was all Fortran. There was a move in late 1960s to PL/1 and I did some of that. Nobody wanted transaction processing, we all wanted fast arithmetic, and not much else.
