On the homepage of the It’s FOSS website… scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see a few ‘resources’ there
Found it. Clicked on one and got the Cloudflare error.
Now it is stuck on that and will not go back to the main page.
Happy Hunting
Tried in another browser… this time it works.
Yes that could be expanded… and if it is important it needs to be at the top
But this is the beauty of the FOSSverse. Maybe someone else knows all about music and sound creation (or other topics) and can contribute here? I, for one, would love to learn all about this (I am a musician) but just don’t have the time right now.
Thanks,
Sheila
Being a musician myself this might inspire me to kind of search for some Linux compatible DAW software. I had been using Presonus Studio One software for the longest time, but no Linux version. So we’ll see what we can come up with.
A DAW I’ve heard that is supposed to be pretty good is REAPER. Its available on Windows, Mac and Linux. I have thought about trying it out myself, but I don’t have any time yet.
Two warnings: REPAER is not open source (I know, this website is called It’s FOSS, but since I’ve heard of it I thought I would mention it to you) Also, I have heard that the GUI is a bit bare bones - but that it is used by some music professionals (obviously not as many as like Pro Tools or other popular DAWs).
I know of Reaper, but I don’t know it well enough to speak to how to do much with it. When I got into it, it was in an audio production context (chopping audio and making production for my web radio station) and I was/am so used to Audacity that it got to where I would have something in my head, and instead of trying to figure out how to do it in Reaper, I’d just jump to Audacity and do what I wanted to do in 5 minutes. But I should look into it a little deeper for bass recording.
Of course, I know Audacity can record internet radio. I have recorded a station for like an hour or more and then manually broke the long mp3 file into the individual songs. But I was wondering, can Audacity know when to start / stop the recording for separate songs?
In the description for Topic Ideas, it seems to indicate not only newsletter coverage and tutorials, but topics to add the the forum here. Am I correct?
Even though you have covered a couple for me in newsletters, and I have benefited from and now use apps you suggested, etc., I was wondering if we could add sections for Gaming on Linux, on the forum, which could be broken down by subtopic for distros, casual vs online gaming (I do not play those
), etc. so that those of us who struggle with getting things to work can learn/discuss, those who want to only use Linux and get rid of Windows can see “gaming” is not an issue, maybe even gaming in VM vs actual Windows (dual boot, etc.) and I’m sure the list would evolve from there.
Secondly, I would like to see a section here on the forum about Linux on mobile; phones, tablets, etc.
While you have touched on these things, (and maybe you would prefer to deep dive in a newsletter) rather than just reading comments on the newsletter, we would have a place for help and learning via discussion just like we do on desktops for apps, etc.
I could be wrong and maybe a lot of folks here do not game or care to obtain the freedom of Linux on their phones, but since I am learning so much just here on the forum, I figure it is the best resource to learn more about these things as well. And if any of us have firsthand knowledge/experience in the setup and maintenance of such things, we could even build tutorials on those subjects.
Just ideas.
Thanks,
Sheila Flanagan
Thanks for your suggestions.
Actually, it is intended for tutorials and article topics on the main website (itsfoss.com). For any forum related suggestion, the Feedback category/section can be used. But that’s not a hard and fast rule. If you use some other category, I can always edit it and put it in the correct one.
Indeed that’s a good suggestion. I can create a Gaming category here for any (potential) gamers. There is no need for distro-wise subsection. Tags can be used for it.
That can also be done.
