Multiquote on Discourse?

I’m an old school forumer (not as far back as BBS’es though). On most PHP based forums (XenForo, vBulletin, IPB, etc) you can multi-quote. That is reply to multiple posts in one big post of your own.

For each message you hit quote under the software places the quote with tags in the editor for easier sequential replies. Use case my Firefox spell check thread. I would’ve just written one reply instead of three.

It’s generally considered bad form to double or triple post on a thread. I kind of expected ‘reply’ to act like multi-quote though thinking about it I understand why it doesn’t.

Thoughts?

I am pretty sure there is a limit for number of consecutive posts here too. You can select text from this, that, and the other post above your reply and choose quote on each of them. That way you have one reply post, but multiple quotes within it.

I use multi- quote.
What I do us open the reply screen with one quote, add my comment, then make sure the cursor is at the bottom, then do another quote and comment on it, … etc.

I think you get a warning after three replies.

I try to use it, but sometimes I forget. Then I add a separate post. I don’t see any drawback in this.

Something similar to the forum’s suggestion to write a DM after I replied $n times to the same user? Nonsense.

Yes I often get that message, but also ignore. Important part of this site for me is the interaction with all users, for or against their ideas adds colour to the contexte. Personal messages are not the same.

I think the idea is to make it easier to follow a thread if there are fewer replies.
I does not bother me either way.

Yes i agree in principal with that, but on some occasions, for example a guide on how to do xx needs many steps and if its for new users they may need smaller steps. More experiance may lead to other suggestions.
