Questions about posts that are removed

Thank you @sourav for your work!
I wasn’t sure it’s a bot. I suspected, hence I asked the very human questions - I thought so at least, such as musical preference. And it partially answered!!! :astonished:
How can we detect a bot, and get it “into the radar” not allowing flying underneath?
As AI gets more and more sophisticated, captcha methods get less usable.

Before posting a question you have to register and reply this should stop most I would think but the AI is getting better so now that is not a barrier…

Guess we the contribution part of the team on the site just continue as normal as if all are real until it changes or becomes silly interaction

I became suspicious when in one or two of the OP replies there was a mixture of bad and good english. That was a red flag.
Behind any AI forum bot poster has to be a human troller.

As @sourav says, a few get through.

Difficulty with using that is not all our members are english speakers as a first language (sorry dont want to offend anyone) so we cannot use that as a pass fail, quickly I can think of 3 contributing members who use a translation tool to post or answer. Also age effects, I find grammatical errors in some things I write now as its a long long time since school for me and lazy … english comes into play. Then you add regional country variations of how things are said written.

That’s no offens @callpaul.eu , that’s a fact.
Take me as the first example, please
I frequently use a dictionary, if a word does not come to my mind in english.
Sometimes, possibly when I’m tired, I may make the most basic grammatical mistakes. Maybe sometimes I word my thoughts just wrongly, because it is so hard to not “think” in my native language.

I have no problem with that.

The point I was making is, it was obvious that a couple of replies included bad and good english separately in the same post.
That kind of thing is not normal.

The what sort of music do you like question by @kovacslt had to be repeated.
I knew that was a test which was eventually reacted to.

Translation use of that AI troll wasn’t up to much. :slightly_smiling_face:

If they say earth wind and fire they are in, if they choose punk then not…

Yes a question should work, but difficult to format as in theory a bot would search for an answer and just give that . At one stage it was enter a code sent by phone, or how many traffic lights but all of these failed on other sites. On a newspaper I read they use a software tool cloudflaire but guess cost involved ? No idea how much or how it works.

Did not want to single you out, we have a really great mix of different cultures and first languages which add to the great feeling of friendship and sharing, 99 % of the time I dont notice grammar errors.

I spend my day speaking french and except through this site never communicate in english and many times if asked cannot reply quickly in english search for words or phrases, 19 years now here and have no idea what is going on in my native country, quite often read english newspapers and struggle with new terms or ideas.

To get back on topic.
Posts/members can ultimately removed by a admin.

The forum uses software called Discourse.
The way trust levels work is this (unless an admin deems different).

I think we all should appreciate the extra effort people for whom English is not their first language have to make to contribute to the forum.
Their replies often bring a different perspective.

Fully agree Neville, mistakes by someone trying their best is not overlooked by me, far from it.

I sadly can’t write or speak properly in a language other than English.
I flit between Spain and UK and most Spanish people I know want to speak English but they like and encourage when I have a go speaking their lingo.

The Andalucian way of speaking differs from natural.
Regional I guess.

Getting back to forum posts, think it’s self moderation if poss, after that is up to an admin.

There are many variations of spanish, we are on the border between spain and france where spanish is second language to catalan and in the other direction french or Occitanien so there are funny words both ways.

Andalusia is again different to basque spanish.

One of the strange things about Australia is that it has never developed any more than some minor local dialects. We have had more than 200 years to diversify, but it has not happened. How long do these things take?

Think its mainly down to the history of europe especially france.

The village we are close too, leucate, was originally part of Occitanie and fortifications still exist seperating it from france closer to what is now spain, bit by bit the barrier moved until it reached the mountains seperating spain from france as it is now.

Some consider spain is not one country but several hence they guard the language and place names, signs are in 2 languages along the frontier.

It was easier in yorkshire, we built a mountain range to keep Lancashire out then called it the pennines that was our first job after creating the world, inventing oxygen, creating stainless steel and cats eyes… anyone not from the uk may not understand this.
