Yes, my point was that

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

did add the right info to the grub menu. Maybe try that on Debian and not the update-grub?

I just noticed that I didn’t have the microcode installed when I saw your post so decided to try how to install it.

I see, so that is different to what happened with me.
It also proves that the grub initrd command can handle more than one .img file.
