So, everybody knows them. Those productivity applications which go totally unnoticed by the community at large, but it has conquered a special place in your heart.
So, which FLOSS productivity application is that for you?
I’ll go first: novelWriter. I simply love this application to death. It does exactly what I need it to and does not get in my way.
I like CDetect. It’s a great alternative to using GNU autotools configure in a project or parts of cmake. I also like diffh. It’s a nice way to get a more readable output from diff.
My favourite is R. Compared to other traditional programming languages, it uses vector operations to take away the burden on having to tediously program iterative loops. Other more modern languages such as Julia have adopted this feature.
I would also give a vote to meld. It is like a GUI version of diff, but also compares folders.
AutoKey is a desktop automation tool that lets you use trigger abbreviations and keyboard shortcuts to replace text or run scripts that interact with applications using keyboard, mouse, and window events to complete arbitrarily complex tasks. It’s a great time saver and a great way to add functionality to appications without having to modify them directly.
I’ve been using AutoKey forever since I first discovered it. Now, I work to support it. AFAIK, a lot of people use it. We don’t hear from most of them until something breaks.
It’s written in Python and we have not had an active developer for around a year. We have a new version in development, but are unable to finish and release it.
