Is there not a flooding problem with those houses right on the lake ?
In .au we have nothing like that picture.
Our mountain lake was created by a dam
There is snow there, but no alpine peaks with permanent snow.
There was a Timeshare (like a condo) that sat on the side of the mountain over looking this small town. Wife and I stayed there several times and I could not get over the view from the balcony.
" People are drawn to things that are bigger than they are—and mountains are more powerful and more omnipresent than humans are…"
I dont think that is the whole story.
A mountain has permanence and stability … something to cling to in a changing world.
Mountains have a mystical aura … something reaching to the heavens, like a spire on a cathedral.
When you are on a mountain and look down, you have a broader vision of the world below … the first time you see your little world from above can be enlightening. … like seeing the earth from a spacecraft.
Linux can have a similar psychological effect. Things like maths and computers extend your mental abiliy … you can do bigger sums. That is quite different from the tools of science … things like microscopes extend your perception but dont help you think. Linux helps you logically … you can do more. A telescope helps you see … you can discover more.
The two feelings are different … not sure which feeling is analagous to the mountain feeling.?
Maybe both… but I am sure Linux IS a mountain … try climbing it… the effort is worthwhile.
There was a Golden Age of travel after retirement for about 15 years. Several countries in Europe including the UK, a few countries in the middle east, a couple countries in the far east, Egypt, Central America, South America, the Caribbean. It would be a long list if I listed each country. Alas, travel today is a small fraction now from what it used to be.
