Usb key and partitioning

You understand the situation better than me.
I agree, too much choice can be a Linux problem for new users.

The only problem I have with Ventoy, is that it will not boot all Linux or W11. I have to use Rufus to burn the Gentoo Live ISO and the W11 ISO.

Makes you wonder if all linux developers worked together to form one standard would it become a market leader or be swallowed by its own sucess

All eggs in one basket is risky.
Diversity is a means of protection.

Yes and no to protection.

To some extent we are almost there

Redhat, debian, slack

But then of course
Cinnamon, mate, xforce, gnome …

Ok not mentioned them all but main players ?

Guess i am lucky as debian source through ubuntu or mint, then either mate or cinnamon or rare ubuntu and just 2 lubuntu users close to me

Perhaps the language helps ?

Not mentioned either android or chrome which everyone just accepts on phone or chromebook

I meant a different sort of protection.
Distros die out. We need lots of them so that some are always available.
What would happen if we only had RHEL then IBM folded?

Open source is also protection.
What would happen if we only had Win, the Microsoft folded?
With open source, someone always can recover it from the ashes.

Linux is like population biology.
We need to breed lots of new little Linuxes to replace the ones that die out.

But do we need to ask why they die ?
Lack of interest
Lack of users
Poor system design development
Puppy almost stopped because the developer retired
Lack of funding
Language
So many questions

Because they fulfil their purpose
Part of that purpose can be stimulating other developments.

Hi Paul,
I’m very interested in talking about what you’ve just written, but in order not to create off-topics, I’ve opened a thread for this subject:

How do I choose between the Linux Mint MATE, Cinnamon, Xfce or Debian editions?

Thanks

Jorge
