What is the most underrated Linux distribution?

Perhaps add this to your lists

We (in general) dont know or do enough for those less fortunate, in health, physical, as well as money related. There are many search engines who donate, but never checked if they really do.

Ecosia is a search engine which is ecologically responsible. They actually share where their money goes.

There is little each of us of can do , other than donate.
I would like to think that Church donations are directed to proper use.
I distrust websites.
We live in a world where direct assistance is frowned upon and most of our charitable efforts are outsourced .
It was not always like that. Have we moved in a wrong direction?

Comes from the catholique charity Emmaus, which originally was a french idea around war time paris and was set up to help those in need in france, its now international and I wonder at times if it really does help, but perhaps its me being over cautioned.

In the UK i did some work for local charity and could see the money going to the right place, then spent some time with a fund rasing group and they were set targets, paid a wage based on that and though no longer want to be involved.

I want to know if it is a good product first.
Our list is of things that are good, but people dont get to hear much about them. Hidden treasures if you like.

Oh I see now the point.

I tried PCLinuxOS for a while. It was clunky and primitive. Its approach to packaging I also found inadequate.

However, the magazine I found a nice touch.

We want a list of good recommended distros that are underrated

In my limited knowlege of Linux and trying distros, I’d have to say Void is underrated.
Lean, mean, clean, fast distro in my opinion.

Don’t see much mention of it online.

Void Linux is my vote.

ā€œGentoo users seem to have a vow of silenceā€
I love to talk about Gentoo!!!
Gentoo gets my vote!!!
Finally got around to installing Gentoo on my updated Asus board, now running a i7 CPU with 32GB ram!!! It walked through this Gentoo install in 4hrs, used -bin kernel and -bin firefox packages!!!

That is great. You i7 cpu is probably newer and better than mine. I must get on with putting Gentoo on my main machine.

@nevj and all, :waving_hand:

Hi all,

I’d like to nominate Bodhi Linux as an underrated distro.

It’s an incredibly lightweight and efficient system that - in my opinion - deserves far more attention than it gets.

  • I’ve used it in a virtual machine setup (KVM/QEMU/virt-manager) and was consistently impressed by its minimal RAM usage and smooth performance.

  • One memorable case comes to mind:
I installed Bodhi on a friend’s new laptop that came preloaded with Windows 10. The system was sluggish and practically unusable under Windows.
Bodhi Linux turned it into a fast, stable machine that’s been running flawlessly ever since.

  • Bodhi is especially ideal for older or lower-spec machines, thanks to its resource-light Moksha desktop environment and minimalist approach. I think
that“s one of the reasons why - despite being based on Ubuntu LTS for stability - it retains a unique identity that sets it apart.

  • In a Linux world filled with so many heavyweights, Bodhi Linux quietly does its job and does it well. That, at least is my personal experience and thatĀ“s what makes it so underrated.

Bodhi Linux 7.0.0, System Requirements:

Minimum:

32bit, 500MHz Processor (including Non-PAE)
512MB of RAM
5GB of drive space

Recommended:

64bit, 1.0GHz processor
768MB of RAM
10GB of drive space

Many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:
