250th 4th of July in the US

Due to a health issue, I won’t be able to get out or catch a local fireworks event in person this year. I was considering the idea of possibly hosting an event virtually on Jitsi to celebrate the 4th of July with FOSS and public domain resources. The event could include Karaoke to public domain patriotic songs using a FOSS Karaoke player, checking out FOSS fireworks programs like Xfireworks, sharing FOSS food apps and public domain recipe books or our own recipes and possibly even trying a short cook-along, sharing public domain resources about the holiday. There might even be an online FOSS escape room or adventure that would be suitable for the theme. Just curious if anyone else is stuck at home this year for the 4th or would be interested in having a virtual alternative to do on the holiday. While the 4th of July is a US holiday, it might just be a fun way for anyone who enjoys FOSS to get together and celebrate the great FOSS and public domain resources that are freely available. Would anyone else be interested in getting together virtually?

Good idea, except for time differences between us all

The time differences are always a problem. No matter what time I pick for a meeting, someone will always have another appointment in the morning or the afternoon, so there’s no way to pick a time for everyone. Software Freedom Day is better at handling this because the events are going on all over the globe in different time zones. I was thinking 1:30 PM Eastern which is 10:30 Pacific time in the US might work. That makes it 5:30 PM GMT. There’s doesn’t seem to be a good way to pick a time that works well in both Australia and places like the US.

That would make it 18h30 local time for me … but… I will be setting up a sound system at that time for a conference that is going on in our village.

Perhaps a thought meeting ?

We all think about it

Can we wish you well with that.

“And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow.” — G.K. Chesterton

That, of course, is exactly what you are trying to do in this post.
I hope you get something going on the 4th.

Been trying to brainstorm some fun ideas to celebrate the 4th with FOSS and here’s what I’ve come up with so far: PBSFG 250th 4th of July celebration (FOSS on the 4th) · Gathio Anyone who’s interested is welcome to attend.
