Accessing It's FOSS community on Android

Not for me on PC, every time I click latest it refreshes same page.
I guess the problem is with Android but have since seen you note that your PC does the same.
Strange.
If I could recreate the problem I would but all ok my end.

That is what it is supposed to do . Making another page is crazy… it then has to update 2 pages .

I will recheck with firefox on my PC. I thought I saw it make a new page with latest.?

I have both android phone using google chrome and tablet using samsung version of android chrome browser, yes they behave slightly different, but not that much.

When I select refrech it does the current page in place does not open a new page. If I open a second page then that is refreshed but not the first page which for me is logical.

On a morning I open 5 or 6 windows onto different news sites, then read each one in turn. By the time I get to the last one I refresh it as it could have changed over the last 30 mins or so. But newspapers dont update that often in most cases.

Hence the confusion on my part to understand the question.

I’m just wondering if internet connection has anything to do with this.
I have fast fibre plumbed direct to router then cable to PC.
Probably nothing to do with it, just a thought.

Now, in response to your query, it’s a definite yes. i found my old notes + info from col panek, but now it seems undecipherable… my brain is now 74, and i’ve looked into help here in Colorado, but CO hasn’t caught up to Linux it seems, so what are my options? Buy a new laptop with Linux installed? Fly my pc to you for assistance (+ name your price)? Or???

Due to personal issues I find myself super stressed re healing from my move and dealing with movers who damaged most of my furniture in the move (CA to CO), & now I have to find a new home & move again by May 1 the latest… know that I am not complaining - I’m just overburdened now (ha! + my laptop is/was my “tv”!)

I value your opinion/advice, and I do have flash drives to copy my data to…
My apologies re my lengthy spiel. With gratitude and appreciation for your time and energy and expertise. From Sarah

Oh, also, after getting help from you all and Linux, it still took me another month to finesse this “project”… Ouch

Thanks for all your support. Yes, my android phone and cheap tablet have WiFi - i’m just not great at using the small screens/keyboards, tho I am muddling thru now…

Perhaps your best answer would be to take a few days out and settle in to your new home then come back when you feel less stressed by your situation… we will still be here and happy to help you but as things are not easy at this moment perhaps a short break would help you.

Or talk to a friend in your area who may be able to remove some of the stress from doing this.

Hi Sarah,
Thank you for the ip addr command results.
It shows that

  • interface enp2so is UP I think this is your internet link
  • interface wlp1s0 is UP This is the wifi link

So the internet link is not dropping out.
Your problem is in your Linux, probably with the browser.
A fresh install might be the easiest fix.

I am sorry to hear you are stressed from moving. I am old too… turned 80 this week. Perhaps as @callpaul.eu suggests, you should rest awhile and come back to this

If you do not wish to try a fresh install, we czn try and fix the problem… What Insuggest you do next is

  • uninstall firefox … use purge to ensure all config files are removed
  • install firefox again.

That should give you a fresh new firefox with no problems

Regards
Neville

I checked again. Both Android browser and Firefox on PC open a second page within the tab when I press refresh.
I think that is an error.

I checked the web site and it’s a new feature in latest version… But I don’t use Firefox so did not know chrome does not do the same at this time… Perhaps tomorrow

Hi Neville - I can’t thank you and Paul and Sheila enough for you expertise and experience!
So I think I will go to Linux Mint 22.1… and any/all advice is welcome!
This ol do-it-yourselfer has had to come to a v difficult decision - since I am badly in need of a vacation (any thoughts?), a new friend here recommended a reliable computer co., 2 of their people ‘know’ Linux ( they call “mirror” “image” - I still don’t get it). So I bring my laptop in tomorrow - I need it more or less ASAP to resolve my moving complaint re ‘the worst movers ever’ - I have much furniture repair to attend to because of them.
I am grateful for your support and will happily contact you all again (as needed)! Sarah

Hi Sarah,
That is a really good solution… some local help will fix it for you.
A ‘mirror image’ is simply a complete copy of an installed Linux… so it sounds like what they are proposing to do is to clone an installed Mint onto your computer.
That is great. I am so happy you have found this help.

I remember now, you are the one who was a mainframe programmer and a Statistics teacher. … When you get it fixed try using R… R is both a programming language and a statistics tool… it is easy to learn and you would enjoy it I think.

Neville

Thank you kind sirs. And what a great weight it is off my shoulders! I dropped it off today with the friend who has used Onsite Consulting - good vibes … And of course I’ll have the flip side of getting it back in business w my files etc… that’'ll be enough!

Okie-doke on the ‘R’ thing!

Once I situate my situation I’d also like to help students with math… Of course being back in Maui volunteering for the Humpback Whale Sanctuary sounds appealing too!
Again, much appreciation to you for your kindness and support. I’m already in a better ‘place’! Sarah

Neville, I am so tardy with my gratitude for all your help… And here is my belated birthday wish - may you enjoy decades more in good health!
Now I am getting very frustrated with Gmail, maybe Firefox too… I am moving at the end of the month (again), so after that I’ll try to lose Gmail - which will stop the 100 emails/day (from signing petitions), etc. I have proton mail, but I want a free account - any recs? Thank you & Take good care. From Sarah
