Best recommendation to buy a dock(ing) to connect multiple SSD types?

Hello friends

With the intention to buy a dock(ing) to put a HD but for considering all these types together

  • HDD
  • SSD 2.5’’
  • SSD M2
  • SSD nvme

It to apply scanning and firmware update (mostly for the SSD types) and for reading/writing purposes as backup (such as a pendrive). Of course the later should be applied through Windows, but the latter through any OS. In my case with Linux.

According with your experience, What is your best recommendation to buy a dock(ing) to accomplish this goal?

Do you want USB or SATA.?
SATA is faster… you can get slot frame which provides externally hot plugable SATA slots… but only one size… usually 2.5in… in SSD or HDD.

I recently bought one of these

Have not fitted it yet. Requires 4 SATA connections plus power

It has been around for a while… recommended to me by @7blade a couple of years ago.

There’s no SINGLE solution.

I have a multitube of them…

Overall? Probalby a USB 3.1 SATA dock, and a bunch of adaptors that will do M2 Sata and NVMe - but it’s confusing - sometimes it will work, sometimes it won’t hence - there probably isn’t a product “yet”…

Heck - I’ve still got data on SCSI and IDE drives - hardly ever need to get to it…

I might even have a motherboard and ISA card and full height ESDI 5.25" drives lying around somewhere - because you never know

About 10+ years ago - I decided to “archive” the filing cabinet draw I have full of 3.5" and 5.25" floppy disks - rigged up a Linux box and hooked up a 5.25" drive - about maybe 33% of them gave CRC errors reading the 5.25" disks - was in no urgency with the 3.5" floppies - as I have at least 2 (probably 3) USB 3.5" readers - I guess I should, before it’s all gone…

Hello Neville

In other network I had these two options as recommendations

My main concern, I don’t have any experience about the manufacturer. Theoretically they should work.
