Bluetooth connection not seeing devices

Lmde 6 64 bit latest version with all updates

I have a hp computer and a jbl sound bar. Works on bluetooth

But my lmde will just not see the jbl.

Tried 3 different usb bluetooth connections
Ran a search nothing
The jbl is in pairing mode
It works from my android phone and connects then plays

But lmde sees nothing

I woundered if it was because the jbl is already connected to the phone so ne3ded resetting but cannot find how, pressing the bluetooth on the jbl the light flashes ready for connect but still nothing.

The jbl did not come with its own bluetooth usb, so trying the built in and 2 others I have in my stock

What are you doing with usb? I thought It was bluetooth?
Is usb how you configure the soundbar?
Try repowering soundbar.

Hey @callpaul.eu this is what I always run into with BT devices. If they are connected previously to another device, cannot get them to connec to another computer before going to the other one (your phone) and choosing “forget” on that one.

Once that is done, the speaker will go into bluetooth pairing mode automatically since it is not connected to anything.

To me that is annoying because then when I want to reconnect to the other device, I have to proceed through the same steps again.

Maybe try that and see if the computer will connect once that speaker has no other previous connections.

I have to do this all the time… it’s frustrating…

e.g. my Thinkpad running Pop!_OS 22 can pair to my Tribit portable speaker - i.e. it’s paired… My phone is also paired to it.

I take that speaker when I’m out and about on my e-scooter or e-bike - and connect it to my phone…

Annoyingly - if I leave Bluetooth enabled in Pop!_OS on the Thinkpad - it grabs the speaker first! So I have to remember to always turn off BlueTooth in Pop!

Similar with my Sennheiser BT headphones - e.g. I have make sure BT is disabled on both my Macs - else they grab the headset first before my Pop! desktop machine does…

Edit : having said the above - BT functionality is exponentially better and more reliable on Linux than it was 10 years ago… a VAST improvement…

I thought the built in bluetooth device may be faulty, hence not connecting, hence I tried other usb bluetooth connection keys just in case. But the computer then had 3 posibilities to use, but did not know how to say dont use internal use the usb bluetooth device in port 1.

choosing “forget” on that one.

Think that is the solution, difficulty was the owner of the computer was stood by me wanting a quick fix before she left plus end of a long day.

Will go back next week when more time.

The system has built in speakers with a much better sound so if all else fails will leave at that

Out of curiosity: What HP machine? For my HP ProBook 4740s running LMDE 6, I don’t have a Bluetooth driver at all.

abu@abu-lt ~ $ inxi --bluetooth
Bluetooth:
  Device-1: Ralink RT3290 Bluetooth driver: N/A
