Cannot change time on clock

Cannot correct the time. Using xubuntu os. downloaded NTP extracted as well as open. Nothing happens.

On the help site of Ubuntu and xubuntu there are several mentions of clock issues that may be worth following

My gut feeling on clock issues would be a faulty cmos battery … as you don’t specify the make or model of the computer I cannot guide you on how to change that but that would be in my list of things to look at.
On older machines the battery fails the computer either does not start or displays a wrong time usually the date of the bios but once running the real time clock accesses the internet time zone and corrects it.

But the battery on some machines is difficult to get at and change, especially modern laptops where many are soldered in place

A Google search on cmos battery with make and model should guide you to a replacement option for only a few euros
