Cheese software in ubuntu 18.04

cheese software doesn’t work in ubuntu 18.04. I tried it in my dell laptop and also in hp laptop.
Nothing happens in HP and on dell it produces garbled black and white zebralike screen.

just now tried Cheese software in Ubuntu 18.04LTS and it is working fine . taking a picture with the webcam, fantastic.
I use an Acer notebook, Aspire 4741G about 8yrs now.

have to try it in Ubuntu 18.10 beta, will report later.

OK,installed Cheese in Ubuntu 18.10 .
Cheese is starting fine but does not recognise the webcam;this looks more an issue of the VM than of cheese.

Try plugin some external USB cam and try it ?
run this

ls -ltrh /dev/video*
