I get the above error when trying to upgrade downloaded updates. The full error messages are as follows:
dpkg:error: unable to open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock for testing: Permission denied
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1).
I have Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installed on my machine which is a 64 bit DELL M5520. Will be grateful to receive information on how to solve this issue.
