FOSS RSS feed not updating

Hi all

I recenty delved into self-hosting on a homelab, and I started relying on the RSS feed hosted at https://news.itsfoss.com/rss/ to receive news I find interesting. I noticed last week that I stopped receiving new stories and on checking it appears that the feed is no longer hosted there. I believe it’s now located at https://feed.itsfoss.com, however none of the news stories published by It’s FOSS since 06-Mar have been added to that page.

I’m not sure who I can contact to ask if there is an issue and if they will be updaitng the feed going forward. Can anyone help?

I noticed the same thing. My Tech News Aggregator (https://dpd.pdecker.com) followed that RSS feed. Now it shows a more browser friendly version my app won’t parse. I was going to message @abishek to see if the old feed was still available or not.

It is indeed an issue. I am working on it.

There is an item in this weeks newsletter

not seeing new articles from It’s FOSS in your feed reader? That’s because there is an ongoing issue with the RSS feed as I am migrating to FeedPress. Please bear it with me.

By the way folks, the feed issue is resolved … for now.

For now, because I am trying to implement a ‘new feature’ that gives full feed access to Plus members. So that they can read the entire articles from their feed readers. Regular feed readers and members will have restricted feed where full articles can be read on the website.

I know not everyone would like this. here’s my reasoning for doing this:

We need more Plus members so that we don’t overly rely on ads and other external revenue sources.

And if people are paying for a membership, they should have some ‘privileges’. This “full access in feed” is one of those privileges.

Most websites restrict the feed so that people can visit to read the article. Everyone would have this option. They can see new articles in the feed, read the first few lines of the article, and then can “go to webpage” to read the rest of the article.

Plus members will have special feed that lets them read the entire article in the feed itself.

This way, everyone gets to read the article, in one way or another, where as Plus members get the comfort of doing it from their favorite feed reader itself.

This is modeled after 404 Media, a reputable name in independent journalism. They are majorly supported by readers through membership. I wish to do the same, create content for our readers with their support.

Thanks for all your work and efforts on behalf of members, we really do appreciate it. Although I dont use any feeds and not a problem member myself its good to see the site progression without yet more adverts which spoil so many sites. Bravo !
