In a LAN exist 2 laptops HP and Toshiba having installed Ubuntu Desktop 24.04. Because they are accessed only by me through Remmina was applied the following configuration to avoid use unnecessarily the screen of each laptop:
Open the /etc/systemd/logind.conf file
Edit from #HandleLidSwitch=suspend to HandleLidSwitch=ignore
Execute the sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind command
Thus for each laptop when the laptop’s lid is closed happens 2 things:
The screen goes black
The laptop is still working in peace
Remember each laptop is accessed through Remmina.
Observation: if the laptop’s lid is opened - at least with an angle more of 05 degree - the screen shows what is being executed. In other words the screen is not black any longer. Furthermore if the laptop’s lid is opened with less of 5 degree the screen remains in black.
In a MacBook Pro 2012 was installed directly in its new SSD Ubuntu Desktop 24.04. Now, applying by complete all the same procedures indicated above: when the laptop’s lid is closed the screen remains working - it is not turned black - I’ve confirmed this by opening the laptop’s lid with a small degree angle.
How to fix this?
Just in case when the laptop’s lid is closed by complete the “apple” light is turned on in white
I was NEVER able to get ignorelidswitch or whatever it’s called working in Ubuntu 24.10…
I gave up and reformatted and installed 24.04… But I see you’re already running 24.04…
This is on a Dell Latitude E7270… Sorry - I can’t help here really - there’s probably a different thing triggered on a MacBook when the lid is closed than on HP and Toshiba laptops?
Me? I just run MacOS on my 2 x MacBook Pro systems - but they’re 2020 model M1 (Apple Silicon “arm64” - not intel). I guess no more MacOS updates for 2012 MacBook?
Thanks for the replies and sorry for the huge delay
Neville
You have to search through logind.conf and experiment to find what parameter is making the Macbook behave differently
It would be tricky, I mean doing experiments of this kind directly in the laptop itself. I am going to research about the official documentation of the logind.conf file for each “setting”

Interesting

I did do this configuration throughout 18.04, 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04, they have in common: ends with .04 and thus are LTS. I avoid use .10 because is not LTS. Perhaps that is the problem

I am agree, I am assuming it is the “apple” light located in the lid itself. It is always turn on

About macOS itself? There is a 3rd party tool that lets do possible an upgrade, but since the OS consumes a lot the resources the MacBook Pro was moved to Ubuntu. More practical
