I know Thanksgiving is more of a US-based festival and many of us here aren’t from the US. Still, I wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each and every one of you.
Life has kept me quite busy lately, and I haven’t been able to participate here as actively as I used to. But every time I come back, I’m greeted by thoughtful discussions, respectful conversations, and members genuinely helping one another.
That’s what builds a happy, positive community and hopefully, a better society too.
So, thank you all for being here, for contributing, and for making this space what it is

I once remarked on the similarity of ItsFoss to the bar in ‘Cheers,’ noting that ‘it’s where everyone knows your name.’ My opinion hasn’t changed. Abishek must be praised for maintaining a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
I have two general-interest questions. Most of you know I’m a shameless distro-hopper–there are SO many to try. Recently, Firefox has crashed in most of them, with no warning. Rather than messing with Firefox, I just switched to Vivaldi with no problems. Any ideas?
I’m curious about 32-bit computers–why bother? I can find 64-bit machines easily, for very little money. Most are XP (and now Win10) machines thrown on the used market by the thousands. Or is my experience unique to the USA? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn than other parts of the world don’t have piles of 64-bit machines on their scrap heaps.

I own 4 netbooks which are 32 bit and only 15 years old just cannot think about scrapping them, so they stay in the cupboard unloved. Along with the original apple powerbooks from the last century which still running fine on apple system 7.5
Paul, if I kept everything that still worked, there would be no room in the house for me. My son, the IT expert, tells me that his employer sets obsolete for Windows systems at 5 years. Phones are set at 3 years. There are no age standards for Linux systems, of course.
I can understand the motive to hang on to functioning systems, but 15 years? unsupported systems? As kindly as I can say it, Paul, please get some help with your hoarding.
Yes. We have, locally, a program called ‘e-cycling,’ where we can deposit outdated or broken tech for disassembly and recovery of precious metals and scrap metal. All of my 32-bit stuff went there.
Not come across an équivalent here except emmaus but even they are sélective now. There is something in Perpignan I should look out for but cannot remember its name, bit strange and 1 hour away so will wait till I have a car full to take. Last time I took stuff to the local tip, there was a guy took the stuff direct from me, I said they dont work, bits missing, but he took them anyway, guess he was worse than me.
