Tried that at the start but no luck. Older boards had a seperate section to short the pins but not this board.
No lights come on, no fans turn, no bleeps even when cards are out, so cannot test further. Normally If it starts up I run a linux usb then use that to test memory and disks, but no power so cannot go down that road.
Dont have any computers with ssd connections to try in another box, but at this stage dont think there is an issue with the disk.
Trying to avoid the cost of taking it to a computer shop and getting an estimate for a fix as there is a charge here even for saying its dead !
Looks like the M2 I bought for my gaming box, only to find out the mobo had no second M2 slot. I bought a simple external box from Amazon, inserted the M2, plugged in the USB, and it worked fine. If all you want to do is recover the data, thatās much cheaper than taking it to a shop.
But are all m2 slots the same ?
Confused over B M or BM as some boxes show 2 ok but not 3rd
Also descriptions show 5 pins or 6 pins on the small part and mine is 3 pins
Ohh
~I think it has a different kind of connector then. Must have an enclosed plastic for each pin, which separates themā¦why dont u try with a wire?~
Edit: I saw the photo again. It seams it doesn even have a connector! My bad!
So acc to what im able to analyse using the picture, the motherboard from front to back of the cabinet. And the front I/O Pins are directly soldered on the mobo, instead of having separate wiring and a separate PCB for the pins as in other common cabinets.
There is a high chance now that its a problem with the power button I guess, cause its directly solderedā¦
I looked up the model number on your pic and it seems the motherboard and PSU in that desktop are HP proprietary parts.
Not standard ATX stuff.
If the problem isnāt the switch it may not be worth having a shop fix it.
For external drives.
I have several NVMe drive enclosures, different brands.
The M.2 enclosure you linked is right for that M key Intel drive from what I see.
No beeps
Power supply if good, put a meter on it and supply is correct to the two places on mother board
It was the second thing I tried once the case was open. That and the cr2023 cmos battery.
Yes i think the switch is faulty not making correct contact but shorted the switch on the m board and still would not power up.
Yes to 2 parts of the motherboard correctly, had my scope on it ansd no fluctuation.
Also when I connect the ethernet cable the lights for that are triggered correctly
Its all around the switch I think but thats soldered onto the board and I am no longer capable of fine soldering to replace. Tried shorting the contacts but failed to trigger
are you sure the psu is delivering enough amps.
it may have a voltage but be incapable of delivering enough current.
can you connect an alternate power supply?
is there a fuse?
I checked the votlage and that was fine, but dont have an amperage measuring device and more.
Plus dont have another power supply of the same rating or connections.
Decided that I have spent enough time on this box to just say stop.
Our association have the choice
1 Take it to a repair shop and pay for a repair quote then the repair bill
2 Buy another computer
3 Let me install the program and data on another machine
We are about to have a major reshuffle of staff, equipment, organisationā¦ plus our current president wants to save moneyā¦ I suspect they will just say make something else work in its place, there is an older XP box that is unloved in reception, I tested the software and it works on mint so may resurrect that until the dust settles on restructure and then see what is needed.
Everything is about money at this time and cutting costs as usual
Rehabbing this box is very likely your best choice for saving money. Iāve cleaned Windows from many like this, loaded them with Mint or Peppermint, and redonated them to a thrift store with a big note: NO WINDOWS, WORKS FINE.
