Our reception hp computer will not start, no bleep, no display, nothing.
I took the cover off, chainged the cmas battery, still nothing.
Put a test meter on the power supply and its delivering the correct voltage to the 2 places on the motherboard as correct. When I connect the ethernet cable the connection lights flash as normal.
I suspect its the on off switch thats worn out or faulty. Tried to short the switch and start up but failed.
At one stage on a motherboard you could short the switch with a screwdriver between the 2 pins on the motherboard, used to be 2 red connections on some boards, or pins 2 and 3.
But not sure thats still correct on new machines as the internet offers nothing and all are from before 2010 .
Part 2
A micro switch is touch to power or hold to restart once powered up, how dows that work i missed that lesson that day and again cannot find a answer.
The hp, has a ssd with important data on as always, dont have an adaptor to connect to another computer or replace on another drive and of course they have never backed up the system in the 4 years of use despite my recommendation as usual.
Suggestions please before I take it to a real technician who will ask a fortune to replace the mother board or sell them a new one.
The video seems to show the process, but I can’t understand him–maybe it’s not English? At any rate, there should be other videos on related subjects in the right column.
Thats the way I am thinking of going, but its a committee that has to make the decisions not me. Complex system of management cannot just do things, president has to decide then inform secretary who then will tell me…then the accountant gets the money part.
I tried watching the youtube video and I could not understand a word!
Checked the mother board and there us no bank of connections anything like this on the board.
With Christmas now the office is closed till monday but will try getting a photo to post see if that helps shed light on the matter.
One Mobo I had you could (while ATX power was connected) press some button on the mobo to check if the RAM modules were okay… Dunno if that helps much… I don’t think it was my current mobo…
That means it is pcie, not sata.
I think you need to put it in another computer internally.
Not sure if you can get a usb box for that.
There may be something here
Ill try to get the pc info by sending it to my father’s friend.
Also I think u need to look for pins on the mobo which are connected to a cable with one end connected to the power button which u click. Then maybe u can short that pins using screwdriver for turning it on. What I am able to understand is that the power button itself just shorts the power header pins on the mobo to turn it on. So it should work fine.
That’s a better way to proceed as speed of transfer will not be compromised. That way u can check if the ssd is fine too and is bootable or not. But as I see the box u have sent supports type c with 1gbps speed so it should work fine. Also HP provides excellent diagnostic tools for checking health of any hardware of the computer. U can use that to check if ur ssd is fine. And once u boot ur computer u can check other parts health too…
