By a mistake by himself it seems the iPad was “infected”. He already changed his Apple ID password in all his devices (same as emails)
By security reasons since that incident He has the iPad turned off. He is concerned if it is turned on again the “bad program” starts do its job again.
He is not sure what is the current iOS. He doesn’t remember if he did an upgrade of the iOS itself. Well the hardware is in perfect conditions.
Question
How to re-install the latest iOS suitable for an iPad Model A1458?
But - given this device is circa 2012 - you’re not going to have much luck getting an iOS update for it… it was EOL (end of life) years ago… Having said that - Apple are better than many other tablet vendors - I’m still getting updates for my 2017 iPad pro, and circa 2019 iPad Mini 6th gen…
I’ve had two Galaxy tablets (note pro series) - both of them were stuck on Android 4! No official way to get anything later… they’re rubbish… landfill… The 2nd one a 12.2" pro actually got itself into a “boot loop” - i.e. it would power on - then reboot… ad nauseam…
Apple crap all over Samsung for nearly everything…
My iPad pro 12.9" (2017 model, purchased in 2018) is STILL getting updates from Apple!
Having said the above - I don’t like iPhones or the iOS ecosystem - so I use Android for phone - and - my current one is a Samsung Galaxy S9+ (2019) - which - was End Of Life in 2022! that’s pathetic - a “flagship” device only getting 3 years of support? And it’s stuck on Android 10 and I’m missing out on a heap of features in Android 11 and 12… But it “works” anyway - I’ve been looking around for a replacement - but really don’t “need” to…
I kinda hate nearly everything Samsung do - except maybe for DeX… I think they’re better at making dumb devices than being “smart”… I have 15 year old Samsung LCD monitors that still work…

Mmmm, Can an ipad upgrade its iOS for many years?

Two members of my family have ipad … but for a normal user use
My iPad pro 12.9" (2017 model, purchased in 2018) is STILL getting updates from Apple!
Very interesting, it is not as for the old MacBook Pro where an upgrade of the OS put slower everything

It seems all depends in the year when an cellphone (Samsung) was bought and it goes according with the Android’s support too

+1 about monitors and SSD … but I bought 2 cellphones Samsung and all goes well so far
Just about EVERY Android Smartphone manufacturer does not do anything “according”… There’s no “standard” - they do WTF they want…
My Galaxy S9+ was a “flagship” phone in 2019… The vendor Samdung (sic) that’s what I call them) stopped updates in 2022… That’s only THREE years of support… That’s garbage… As I mentioned my 2017 iPad pro is still getting updates from Apple…
How long you get upates for - for Android - is 100% entirely the vendor - not Android/Google themselves… Unless you have a Pixel - I think you can more easily wipe it and run something like LineageOS… Some of the vendors are improving… I think Google “standardise” on 5 years for their Pixel smartphones and tablets… and others are trying to play catch up…
But it’s a joke that my Flagship model smartphone is effectively “bricked” on Android 10… Sheeze - Samdung didn’t even support it going to Android 11… All they want is for customers to buy a new phone every 12 months and create more e-waste… The ONLY thing I like about Samdung is DeX - but I barely ever use it - so I may get a Pixel for my next smartphone… there’s allegedly some sort of DeX like “Desktop Mode” in Android 14 and 15…
Its not in the makers interest to keep an older model working, if they do they dont sell new ones … but they have to keep them going long enough to gain the brand love for the next one.
Also we want bigger capacity, smaller size, faster processing, new features …
Normal with apple its 5 years, android depends on the make and original price paid.
I have a getting on for 20 year old apple laptop but now running linux mint, where my tablet has been replaced 3 times in that period. On cost apple 2k for 20 years, tablets 1k2 for 20 years. Hence android tablets are cheaper. But not real logic in this calculation.
