Hi @Mrbuzz55 ,
Welcome to itsFOSS forum.
There is an official upgrade document here

https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/upgrade-to-mint-22.html

The golden rule is to do a complete backup of your disk first. Then you can always recover from a mistake.

If you are short of backup disk space, the most important thing to backup is your personal files. You can always reinstall an OS, but your personal files can only be recovered if you make a safe copy.

I’ve done a LM version upgrade via terminal.
Worked ok but it took a long time.

My preference is clean install rather than upgrade.

I am also a LM user and have been for the past 6 years.
I used the upgrade path using the infomation that was posted by @nevj on my desktop and the upgrade went very smoothly for me.

I also tried using the upgrade path on my laptop, but the pre-upgrade check by mintupgrade stop because it had errors. Why it worked on the desktop and not the laptop, I don’t know and I did not document the errors. So on the laptop, I performed a clean install.

Good luck on either path you take.
Howard
