A friend of mine has a hp deskjet 2547 printer. Up to a few days ago she was on the internet with copper, she upgraded to fibre which resulted in a change of the internet box so needed a new wifi connection to computer, phone, tablet and of course the printer.
Everything else saw the new box, connected with the password and works fine. Except the printer.
Paul … help…
No problem, touch the wps button on the router, put printer into handshake mode, and wait… the light on the printer continues to flash but does not see router, yes they are on the same table together.
Onto HP support and download the smart connection, install (only on windows) software does not see printer, attach usb cable drivers installed, but will not connect on wifi. Light still flashing searching for signal.
Tried mobile Android phone same problem
Wifi light flashes and will not connect.
Wifi direct says printer is available’ but wifi light will not steady just keeps searching.
I know the ip address of the printer as the router shows it.
Is there a way in linux to connect and say you are on wifi stop flashing… not sure if its a password issue and once i tell the printer that number everything will be fine.
The deskjet does not have a tool panel just a display of signal strengthen which will not stay static.
Sorry, yes plugged the cable into the printer and it works fine as a wired printer.
Unplugged it,
deleted the entry everywhere
Ran hp smart (android and windows versions)
Said search for new printer
Saw the printer on screen
Said New connection on wifi
Search
Then plug in cable for usb set up on windows, android did n0t offer that
Then nothing
No wifi just blinking wifi light
Yes wifi working fine
Printer test page shows new livebox connection but password box empty but no way of getting to it on install software
I’m not sure how it goes now, but once upon a time I needed to install HPLIP for someone on Ubuntu in order to get the printer working (it’s in the repo, so no need to download anything from HP).
Thanks for the suggestions, i had not found the manual when i looked, just a french version which I had but it was not easy to translate even for my french friend.
The suggestion on direct printing switch on or off is an idea. It is currently on, as I was trying to use it to connect via Bluetooth but nothing could see it either on or off
Using cups and the cable mint sees the printer no problem, but not on wifi as its just flashing and not connected to the router
There are different frequencies in Wifi.
I wonder if the new internet box uses a different frequency? The computer might adapt, but the printer may not be able to adapt
Brother make great typewriters … and door stops enought said.
Joke. Funny experiences with different makes and models make us choose one over another.
I dont sell computers or products so not a big deal, but i always choose epson for printing
Yes the new box comes with 2 wifi frequencies, not sure how or who chooses with printers to connect as there is no control panel to select from. But think its the same as the old box, not something I had thought about. Usually its plug and play.
" Many routers operate in both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands. Make sure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting. If the router broadcasts separate network names (SSIDs) for each band, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz SSID."
Hi Paul,
Can you see the printer’s IP or MAC address in the router’s list of connected devices?
Can you ping the printer?
(I believe that in the print test you have the printer’s MA address and IP)
If you have access to the printer’s IP, I’m not sure, but I believe the printer has a configuration page.
Try entering the IP in your browser to see if it has a configuration page.
Yes orange uses that, but there is no control to select from for each device plus the old orange box used the same system, its stuck on the password bit as far as i can tell when i print the status report.
