My HP EliteDesk 800 G3 is using a Superseded Kernel. Is it safe to install a later Kernel? Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.2.
Thanks in advance for any input
Bruno
If it was my system, I would update the kernel. Well, if anything goes wrong, you can revert to the original, when booting, in GRUB menu choose advanced options, and choose the previous kernel to boot with. After that you can remove the newer kernel, but I wouldnât expect anything go wrong.
This option is still there for you âjust in caseâ.
Hi LĂĄszlĂł, thanks for the reply. I was a bit nervous about installing a newer Kernel. Will try doing that.

May I ask why you want to install a newer kernel than the one offered by your distribution?
I assume there must be a reason why they stick at 6.8 for your machine.
Hi Alfred, I am still having a problem with the mic input for zoom from my webcam. Just want to see if it will help.
OK, maybe that might help. Good luck.
I drive Debian, and something like once in 2 months I get kernel updates. The package manager installs it nicely. Never had a problem with updating the kernel.
I think thatâs an older install, maybe it was 22.1 before which came with that kernel. Linux Mint 22.2 offers 6.14.
I believe @Brunoman tries to do a regular update (22.1 â 22.2) but was frightened by updating the kernel, and deferred that part.
Could be a slight misconfiguration of the sound system as well.
Try to create a brand new user, and login with that. This new user will have set everything to system default. Try to use Zoom with that user, is the problem present here too?
Thanks, tried that a while back but no joy. I have a post âStill no definitive answer why mic not working on Zoom in Cinnamon?â and had a lot of kelp but still not resolved.
The 22.2 was a clean install using Ventoy and the latest version.
Agree, in general. But one of many kernel upgrades has failed. (LMDE). I donât remember any details, but I had to reuse the former kernel and clean up my system.
Hi @Brunoman,
I have a HP ProDesk 600 G4 with Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.2 and have had no problems.
Good Luck
