Hi, @ernie
Since I also have Garuda, I tested my usb camera by inserting it and installing Cheese (basic webcam app). Once there, it defaulted to my internal notebook webcam, but I clicked the hamburger menu in the upper right and chose “Preferences” and there was a drop down in Device field to choose between the internal and USB cam. Once I selected it, it automatically worked.
I did not find any way to add it via Devices>Cameras in Settings. And prior to using Cheese, I did not find it listed in lsusb
.
But it is automatically detected in Cheese. Once this happens, I guess it is then available from other apps, but you may need to go in to the app’s settings to switch between the two if you also have an internal webcam.
Hope this helps!
Sheila
It does! Thank you Sheila! I installed cheese and when I loaded it, it went directly to my new USB camera, and it appears to be working, because I can see myself in the cam window!
To tell the truth, I had no idea where to begin when it comes to getting a web cam to work in GNU/Linux because I’ve never had any need for one before, but recently, I’ve needed to join a few virtual meetings for various purposes, and I wanted to be able to do so in either Windows or GNU/Linux.
Thank you, again! I’m very grateful for your help,
Ernie
You are most welcome!
