Installing NVIDIA driver for GT730 in Fedora has made it unusable!

Disclaimer: reading a bit back I see I had a huge lot of typos in my writings.
The last couple days were too busy for me, I could not get to my computer, and could write only from my phone. There I have trouble hitting the keys on the 6" touchscreen with my potato-sized fingers.
So please forgive me that, and in the future, if anyone sees I write “s9rry” that stands for “sorry”, just hit the “9” instead of “o”.

Back to the topic:

Everyone is so impressed, because they (#metoo!! ) see HAL9000 from Space Odyssey of A.C. Clarke to become alive, to become a reality.
Still needs education, to be that clever, some training to be hopefully not so evil

Anyway, a machine cleverly talking with real humans, almost human way, that’s really impressive!

And for the error: ChatGPT is trained to give an answer, so if you ask it, you are guaranteed to get an answer.

But you are not guaranteed to get the correct answer.

@Rosika got a script from the GPT, but that suffered some bugs. Using only NI (natural intelligence  ), those bugs were sorted out.

By all means use GPT, but be aware

  • its information is sometimes out of date… as in this case
  • it can only answer well phrased queries
  • sometimes you can get a clearer picture by reading the Linux documentation yourself

No one in here has mentioned an Intel graphics adapter. They have some good performing and reasonably priced cards with good Linux support. At least last I heard.

Intel only seem to make medium to high end graphics cards. (smallest is 4Gb VRAM)
That makes sense… if you want low end graphics use an inbuilt Intel GPU.
I can confirm that the inbuilt Intel GPU’s are trouble-free on Linux.

I wonder does an Intel graphics card require an Intel motherboard?

Yes it does!! Intel board and CPU!!! Most all Intel CPU’s have embedded graphics, if one just wants to boot a machine, it will work fine. For gaming, I am Nvidia, all the way, for cross platform use, then AMD is best!! On my fixed income, I can hardly afford either one!!!

Pretty sure a dedicated Intel graphics card doesn’t require an Intel CPU. That wouldn’t make much sense if they want to sell as many cards as possible.

As far as being high end only, here is one from Amazon that seems pretty reasonable to me. It’s $99 US.

No it does not, but Intel does not make high end graphics cards, at least nothing like Nvidia and AMD.

That is cheap for a 4Gb card.

Here is the full range of Intel cards

They have different categories… desktop, laptop, pro, super

This is only about their second or third generation of card too though. At this point I think they’re after the value or mid-range customer.

This says Intel cards work with Linux

They say Arc series cards are very new and maybe problematic, but the article is dated 2022 so they are probably OK today. I cant find any recent info.

Intel graphics card has no market share in India. At least I am not aware of it because in India, people think only about Nvidia and AMD when it comes to graphics card because specially AMD cards are excellent for graphics and gaming purpose and people buy Nvidia for gaming purpose because of the marketing hype. If you put same category AMD and Nvidia cards to test, you will see AMD is far better option than Nvidia because it will give you the same performance, sometimes more than Nvidia at a cheaper price. Throughout my computer-life, I have seen that AMD never compromises with performance.
