Is it good choice to select option "install Ubuntu alongside Windows" while allocating disk space

As I am beginner to Ubuntu and while installing, is it good choice to let the Ubuntu to allocate space on its own. Or I should create ‘/root’ , ‘/swap’ ,etc… partitions.

I would really recommend you to let the installer do its job.

The defaults are usually pretty good.

However: Don’t forget to backup your Windows data beforehand. Just in case.

Mina’s right.
Although I am very much against dual boot of ANYTHING.
For the first time, go with the defaults.
Have you played with the USB Live drive option yet?

Install VirtualBox in Windows 8 and try Ubuntu in a VM before dual booting.
