In the past I was really happy with KDE/Plasma. Since a while I’m using Cinnamon. I never want to go back to Plasma again. It’s slow, bloated, and overloaded with functionality. On my reasonably powerful computer it takes (relative) ages to start, whereas Cinnamon is there almost instantly. It’s also quite responsive and doesn’t have strange, mysterious bugs.
I don’t think any other DE can make me happy anymore. I know; I’m spoiled.
I made some adventures to try other DE’s, and I feel the need to tell you, how much
I agree!
I tried KDE and Gnome, I liked KDE, but there were too many bugs, GNOME on the other hand worked well, but could not get used to its layout.
If Cinnamon would disappear my next choice would be XFCE, it is my #2 DE. #1 is definitely Cinnamon.
Yes I remember when Ubuntu went from Gnome2 to Unity and then they went to Gnome3.. Cinnamon is basically that same Gnome2. I prefer Cinnamon if I need full DE. Otherwise I use Sway.
Thanks. So it is like Mate?
I dont know anyone who actually likes the gnome3 iconfest.
You can turn it off and used a dropdown menu in gnome3, which effectively reverts it to gnome2.
I was under the impression that mate was gnome 2 and cinammon was gnome 3. But to be fare I changed from Linux mint mate to go to lmde with debian and that gave me cinammon so, although there were changes I put it all down to the base layer of debian and moving from mint 20 to lmde 5 (or6)
