Looking for GUI tools for file recovery from mounted drive

Is there a software tool that allows file recovery on mounted drive without using command line

Works on external drives

Its for a friend who lives a hours drive from me so i wanted to give her and easy graphical tool to use without going to see her.

I myself did not use, but heard good reviews of R-Linux.

You may check it.

First time heard of R-linux.
But is it better than testdisk/photorec?

Even though testdisk/photorec are CLI-based, they have a pretty easy to use cli…u just have to select things by arrows and use enter thats it

I looked at

But they work with external drives and mainly images.

Will check that out, thanks

Ok final answer…

Operator error.

She had some how dragged every folder out of where it should be and placed them all in her home folder. No idea how as pictures for example were in nested folders, which they no longer were in.

She told me she had done a system update… but could see no mention of any change in file manager.

Also she had lost a language, she is Belgian hence 2 languages on the system and now only one.

Dont think a system update would cause these issues, so put it down to user error !

An immutable system might suit this user.

I used R-Studio 8/10 yrs ago. It saved me in a critical situation for a pendrive.

Just being curious in what Linux distribution happened the “accident”?

Linux mint debian edition
64 bit
Version 6
On hp all in one

The user has been on mint for 6 years without problems, but she is also into alternative therapies so sometimes comes up with strange theories. Plus the language issues dont help, my communication in Belgian leaves a lot to be desired
