I remember seeing Ubuntu Twitter handle promoting a Super Mario like game in Ubuntu. Does anyone know about it ?

Open up the software center and do a search for it. It should be there, I believe.
Maybe you want to keep an eye to Secret Maryo Chronicles; a great SMB clone. Last time I’ve played, I installed it using sudo apt-get update -y && sudo apt-get install -y smc but here are more options, in case you want to install the latest alpha stage or any other available versions:
