New forum content on existing topic doesn´t show up

Hi all, :waving_hand:

I´ve just run into a strage problem:

I got new replies to an old discussion:
Printing with just color cartridge when b/w cartridge is empty .

I know of it because I was reminded of them by e-mail.
But when I access the page in question with the browser those new replies aren´t displayed at all.
The last contribution I can see is #19. It´s from @Mina (Oct 2021).

Curious thing: It´s the same with any other browser.
waterfox, google-chrome…

Any idea what´s going on :red_question_mark:

Many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello Rosika

Just yesterday I read that post, and there were 3 replies after of 4 years as follows:

  • By a girl
  • By Neville
  • By the same girl

I’ve just entered to the same post and these latest replies are gone. I am assuming they were deleted.

So is not your web browser, lets wait an admin to give more details

Hi Manuel, :waving_hand:

thanks so much for trying it out.

So those replies are really gone. That´s curious indeed.
At some point they must have been present. Otherwise I wouldn´t have been notified by e-mail.
So the were deleted soon afterwards.
That is odd.

Perhaps Neville @nevj or Abhishek @abhishek can shed some light on it.

Thanks again and many greetings from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, I read them the 3 and all was polite.
So I don’t have idea why they were “removed”

Hi Manuel, :waving_hand:

thanks for the additional information.

Might it have been that the thread was too old?
But I don´t think so.

Well, let´s wait for some reaction.

Thanks again and cheers from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

I saw those messages as well, now they are gone. The same happened with this topic a few weeks ago. Deleted without further notice. Do we have a ghost mod here?

BTW, responding to a 4-year-old topic maybe isn’t that useful. But silently deleting this new content isnt it either.

Hi again, :waving_hand:

@nevj :

Thanks Neville for researching it.
We have to know why the unlisting occurred. It might be useful to know if something silimar happens again.

Perhaps it can be undone… .

@abu :

Thanks Alfred for your input as well.

I just looked up the thread you mentioned:
The last contribution I can see is post #10 by Dan Tripp from 6 days ago.

Many greetings to all.

Cheers from Rosika :slightly_smiling_face:

Not quite the same, in the former case I was able to restore them.
In this case I cant. I can see 4 hidden posts after the Mina post.

@sourav , could you please see if you can restore those 4 posts?
People want to read them

Who knows? Maybe the goal was to inhibit revival of ancient topics. I assume discourse has better tools to achieve this.

Please can you have another look

I replied to one post using a quote

There were 4 hidden messages, I unhid them then restored the 4 now I can see everything but can you ?

I read the replies and could not see any errors or reasons why they would be flagged, also the replies were from regular contributions members so its not for that reason….. no idea. At one stage I did get a server 404 error but then it disappeared could not replicate it.

Hello Neville

Thanks for the feedback and for the restauration

The original poster (the girl) was a kind of fake account?
Now I see system account instead

I can see everything now, except the two posts by the new girl are now owned by itsfoss community ??
I checked and user maya-vaude was deleted by sourav…no reason was given

How did you restore them.? I tried and failed.

Oh, yes that was my doing, I basically got rid of the random bot accounts “reviving” these years old topics, and I removed the replies too so that the context isn’t missing. Unsure how I can bring the deleted ones back.

I could not see them either thought she had delete them or had her account deleted

I am not sure everyone can do this except admin or modérateur….

I had a bar showing display hidden items

Once done they appeared in red

I selected part of a text reply and copy quote it. To test it was back, that worked but still red

Click on the 3 buttons which give you more options then an undo style button. They came back for me. And it appears for all

Thanks Sourav,
Its OK… Paul has got them back.
So that post from a ‘lady’ was a bot … I never would have picked it … now i
understand why you deleted the user

This may be a silly question, but why would they want to revive an old question. Except to flooding the site with old material ?

I assume these bots don’t understand that the topic itself is inactive, they just seem to trigger on certain keywords maybe (I might be wrong though).

May I suggest freezing any dead topic 6 months after the last post? I know from other discourse forums that this is possible.
