I noticed some time ago that the num lock option is not enabled on startup on my desktop tower. I’m running Mint v22.3. I saw an item in the latest FOSS newsletter on how to enable the num lock by installing numlockx. I’ve done this, but it is still not enabled on startup. I saw a suggestion to also add numlockx to the startup applications and turn it on, which I have done. But it still doesn’t work until I press the num lock key. The Q4OS on my laptop enables the num lock on startup without any intervention. Why won’t it work with Mint?

On some devices, it can be set on the BIOS setup, when you start the computer, press F2 or Del repeatedly to enter the BIOS menu and look for the the Num Lock option (usually under the “Miscellaneous” menu). But not all offer that.
There is more info on the mint site
