Office suite monitoring you?

I read this from Linux Magazine

"Office suites used to be about getting your work done, but the office suites from the big tech giants are getting sinister – monitoring what you do, forcing AI features onto you, and coercing you into buying subscriptions so you can access your data.

Fortunately, there are free and open source software options. The versatile LibreOffice office suite gives you everything you need."

What do you think?
Is this trend real?

That sounds like the recipe for fresh water in the desert:
Open your backpack and take a bag of instant water powder.
Add water to it, mix thouroughly without lumps. After 1 minute you have fresh water, drink it before it evaporates.

Wine is made from grape fruit, so why does it not count for your 5 fruits a day ?

What people think about corporate ethics seems to vary

  • some are unaware
  • some ignore it and use the product anyway … maybe the majority
  • some enjoy being ‘known’ … advertising thrives on this
  • some want privacy … corporate dsta is seen as a threat
  • some see it as a moral or criminal issue

From where I am it seems Linux users can be in any of the above categories … they do not all move to Linux to avoid corporate data collection… they come to Linux for a variety of reasons.

At one stage when microsoft moved from the word 6 icon bar to the new format menu system they said it was due to user experiance of watching what was used and in what way.

I really hâte the newer versions of word excel etc and that new bar. Give me libre office, open office or the okder word 6 format of icons and menus.

Is the software watching me, very much doubt it, and they would be very quickly asleep as I never do anything interesting on it.

But strange, today I put on youtube and a former student appeared from 20 years ago, I have never looked for him or done any research about him, so somewhere youtube connected us. So perhaps someone is watching me.

And in the words of the great song

Its the IRS
