OK - I went to a fantastic gig last night - P (Polly) J (Jean) Harvey - in Perth (she’s from Dorset UK)… in the open air - beautiful evening in Kings Park botanical gardens…
She’s probably my favourite woman performer artist on the planet… so gifted, so much integrity as an artist - uncompromising… She’s a genius…
Anyway - put together a setlist of the tracks she played last night (thanks to setlist.fm) today… tried to get mostly live tracks (ripping off youtube using yt-dlp)… but it’s not “cutting the mustard”… Missing a couple of her early albums in FLAC format (trying to recitfy that now) - and she played at least 4 songs from her early / mid 1990’s catalog (and I don’t have those in FLAC format). One issue is sound quality variance - and noise - and normalization - most modern players can cope - but I found in Sayonara and “Music Player Folders Pro” on my phone some variation - tried running “normalize-audio -m *.mp3” on a backup - and wasn’t happy with the results…
But - that’s besides the point - it would be way easier to just leave the music files where they are and make a playlist - that I can use on my Linux desktop (Pop!_OS) and phone (Galaxy S9+ running Samsung’s version of Android 10)…
But how? I think Sayonara might support playlists - but I need something to create them… e.g. track 1 is in subfolder B of artist X catalogue, but track 2 might be in subfolder C of artist Y catalogue…
e.g. I’d like to have a playlist of songs about rivers (e.g. most afternoons I go for a ride on my tredley : around the river)… e.g. Neil Young’s “Down By The River” from 1969’s “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere”, but also Springsteen’s “The River”, and PJ Harvey’s “The River”, Alice in Chains’ “Damn That River”, Neurosis “No River to Take Me Home”, REM “Find The River”, Willie Nelson “Whiskey River”, Tom Waits “Misery is the River of The World”, The The “Down By the Frozen River”, Joni Mitchell “River”, Pixies “River Euphrates”, CCR “Green River”, TISM “He’ll Never Be an Old Man River”, Kate Bush “Lord of the Reedy River”, Hunters and Collectors “When The River Runs Dry”, Patti Smith “Pissing in a River”, and even stuff without “river” in the song title, like Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks”, et cetera…
I have two collections of Music - over 1 TB on my NAS - but about ~200 GB of the stuff I mostly listen to in Resilio Sync (it’s a subset of the master on my NAS) - that I also share to my phone (not using Resilio Sync - I use adb-sync over USB for that).
