i am running pop os on an alienware laptop and have set up plasma DE but attached monitor won’t recognize it. monitor works just fine if i revert to pop os DE. any ideas?
Welcome Bill,
Is this monitor a second monitor, in addition to the laptops builtin screen?
If so, does the builtin screen work with both popos and plasma dte?

thought i had it fixed. laptop runs pop os and plasma DE works fine except monitor doesn,t recognize the external monitor. laptop screen is great in both pop De and plasma DE. monitor works fine for pop os. I have been playing with the settings in the plasma DE, going in and adjusting “display and monitor” settings. i have set laptop as enabled and primary with 60 Hz refresh and 3840x2160 and have been adjusting the dell monitor settings. laptop shows these settings fine but monitor seems to want to display only bluetooth settings ( mouse is bluetooth}. had screen working once but when i did a restart it went back to previous not working mode

That is a clue. Try and think through something that would be temporary, ie disappear at a boot.
Things that I know can do that are… firewall settings, environment variables set at the terminal, …
I agree plasma/KDE is nice. I used to dislike KDE, but they have improved enormously.
What sort of connection does the external monitor have?
Look cor messages about that connection in the logs.
