I would not choose anything which needs that package. Luckily we have Firefox-bin on Gentoo. I donāt use any login manager/greeter on my machines. You can edit .bashr to startx after login.

Firefox is about as bad with the ānodejsā dependency!! No bin packages for LFS!!!

OK, this is about as far as I can take LFS, Firefox running on LFS!!!
If one has never compiled Firefox from a tarball, then you are missing
all the fun with Linux.
Have a few more packages to compile and rebuild a few, but for now, I am
going to consider my LFS project completed.
Have another post, but it will have to be done from another machine.
Are there any other Foss members running LFS and Firefox!!!

I am naming this my LFS experience!!! āLFS is time consuming, I started my journey with LFS, over two years ago, and have, at last, can consider this project completed. LFS was like, Gentoo was, several years ago, I just wanted to see if I could do it. The base LFS was not to hard, but going from base to BLFS, is an entirely different animal, and the BLFS book, while very informative, can really be hard to understand, at times. By hard, I mean, staying up late at night, getting maybe two hours of sleep, leaving the PC working all night, nothing hard about that, mostly just crazy!!! While I know, and have used other Linux Distros, nothing has been the challenge that LFS has been!!! Got to add a few more items to the build and rebuild a few packages, but I can relax a little and do it in own my own time!!!
My best advice, if one may be considering LFS!!! Be patience and take notes!!!ā

Is it feasable to use LFS , once built, as oneās working distro?
What is its security like?
Do you have all the other normal appsā¦mailer, office , graphics,?
Can you add software from elsewhereā¦ like from github?
I have no feel for what one might do with an LFS, once the build is complete.

That depends on a lot more than I have compiled and as to how often a new LFS is made available!!
At this point, I really do not care!!!

You have to approach LFS as a learning tool for Linux, and as for myself, everyone,
proclaiming, Linux is so great, is in need of this experience!!! So, for myself, I will play with LFS and see how far I can tweak it!!!

Yeah , that is its main purpose.
I was just wondering if the end result could be used as a normal linux workhorse.
It seems the answer is yes, but it would take a lot of extra work.

I would never use LFS as a daily driver, just to much work involved!!! I do believe LFS could
be used in a headless server and set LFS for that sole purpose!!!

It might be able to be used to make a small embedded linux. There would be less work there

Wrote my first bash script today for LFS and xfce4, to empty the
ā~/.local/share/Trash/files and /infoā and it worked!!! Getting a xfce4 trash icon, involes
rebuilding āgvfsā and gvfs pulls in Systemd and that I do not need!!!

This creeping growth of systemd annoys me.
Hyperbola seems to be able to avoid it, why not LFS.?

It has been a long haul but LFS now has Firefox,Alsa,PulseAudio and pavucontrol, rocking with YT music, next will be VLC and mp4 playback!!!

How about networking? Does it communicate with your other computers? Can you ssh or sftp between them? Can you make it display output on another computer with X forwarding.? Will it drive your printer? Does it have Wifi or ethernet? What do you use for backup?

I reinstalled my Nvidia GT430 today, had to set xorg driver to modesetting to get the nouveau driver wirking.
Gonna try for lightdm tomorrow!!!
LFS is running just as will as Gentoo, at this stage

Why do a Linux from scratch project ?
To learn the system or to prove you can ?
Do the standard ones not offer for a special need ?
I am too simple I just pick a distribution version then go with it.

You must have a backup of the whole OS. How would you recover from a gliche?
You might want to sit at another computer and ssh into LFS and have it display graphics back to the computer you are sitting at.

You do not realize how many times I have started over, and if you think
you can build LFS, without starting over, then give it a try!!!
There is an option where one could turn the build into an ISO!!!
