I tried my hand at running Cyberpunk 2077 on Ubuntu 22.04, and to my surprise, it worked well. I ran a few benchmarks to test stability, the screenshot below shows the results, all settings were at their highest settings, except RT Overdrive. (I don’t want my laptop to burn down)
I tweaked the settings after this for a more playable experience, and will be sharing my experience in an article soon. (Thank you, @Ankush_Das for that idea!)
PS: Ignore the Windows Pro bit, that’s probably due to Proton.
Hey Sourav did you write that article im intressted in reading it. i did play Cyberpunk on my ps5 and i liked it. Right now i play Stalker 2 on my second playthrough. what games do you play other than Cyberpunk ?
I play my games mostly on Fedora and Cachyos and it works great.
And for other games, I have played a few on Linux specifically, such as Transport Fever 2, Arc Raiders, The Finals, Sons of the Forest, and a few others.
ok. Im mostly play some kind of RPG,like Baldurs gate 3 or Grim Dawn,Lies of p and Elden Ring and much more. have you writen more games articles here ?
Been tempted to try Cyberpunk 77 for a few years now - gets a Gold or Platinum rating on ProtonDB…
I do miss Linux native games though…
Played Borderlands 2 and “The Pre-Sequel” as Linux native games - stellar performance… So decided to try / buy Borderlands (1) as a Windows only game - yeah - very dodgy (e.g. move forwared gets stuck on’ all the time - seen this happen with other Windows only games on Steam on Linux)…
I was playing a Windows only game earlier this morning Age of Empires II - HD Edition - plays flawlessly…
Played through and finished one of the Windows only Wolfenstein games on Steam on Linux - no issues…
But I still prefer Linux native like : Serious Sam 3, L4D2, Talos Principle and Portal 1 and Portal 2…
Boderlands the first game i played many times when it came and i played Boderlands 2 also and bought Boderlands 3 on ps4 but never liked it. Today Cyberpunk is a great game but i only played it on my ps5.
Was playing AoE II for about an hour this morning - and the old symptom I’d thought I’d fixed started again… Screen lag and delays and map keeps scrolling after I’ve let go of the arrow key to scroll… This started happening last year a few times - with a huge (called LudiKRUS in the game) map and 5 players (all AI - except for me)… Thought I’d fixed it by locking it down to some intermediate version of Proton… But it seems that Steam decided to switch it to “Proton Hotfix” and I can’t remember which of the 14 proton options that workd to stop this happening… It’s a PITA - cause each time you change the Proton version - the game has to download a new bunch of files before it will start…
OK - so a huge map and 6 players - maybe asking a lot - but remember this game came out around 2001 or something… i.e. Windows 98, single core sub 1 Ghz CPU and probably 128 MB RAM or less… My 4.4 Ghz Ryzen system has 16 CPU (8 cores with HT) and 64 GB RAM and an 8 GB GPU…
Anyway - Cyberpunk 77 is 2-3-4 years old now - and Steam are still asking top shelf latest game price… I won’t pay $90 for a game… I’ve added it to my wishlist anyway - so if it goes on special I might grab it… I’ve got $25 in my Steam Wallet anyway (from Xmas - still haven’t used it).
Multiplayer can be very laggy, the only proton version i use is proton experimental and its been working great for those games i have played, i have to pay euros for games here and no i would not give that much money for any game, Cyberpunk cost 60 euro here. i also put those games i want to my wish list and wait for sale
