It is the Feast Day today for Augustine of Hippo.
He lived in the 3rd and 4th Centuries
He is a divisive figure, even today, because of his direct approach
“Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.”
" In order to discover the character of people we have only to observe what they love."
" Patience is the companion of wisdom. "
You get the picture?
So how would this guy have fared using Linux?
I venture to guess he may have come to something like this
ignore the symptoms, find the cause of the problem
prepare your self, before you take on a new project
all this choice, where are the guidelines.
Would anyone like to expand that?
Some more quotes:
His Theology and Philosophy have lasted for 15 centuries and Augustinianism is still one of the major approaches today.
“Truth is both sweet and bitter. When it is sweet, it spares us; when it is bitter, it cures us.”
Just how many saints are there?
In france every day is named after a saint, many celebrate both the birthday and the day of the saint with there name.
So at least 365 ?
What do the others do and why name a day after them, is it related to something they did on that day ?
Thousands. Usually about 10 for each day. Some are local customs , some are global.
It is usually the date of their death. I think that originated because some of the saints are also martyrs.
France has a long tradition. In the Middle Ages, that was common everywhere and major saint’s feast days were public holidays.
The interesting thing (for me) about saints is that they were mostly people who were able to go against the establishment thinking (or doing) of their time.
