Screen "flicker" only under Fedora Workstation 42

It is quite annoying, seems to have something to do with OSK popping up on this Dell Latitude 9410 convertible PC. Why I installed Fedora with GNOME: seems to have the best “tablet-like” support when I unfold the device.

When I examine the screen brightness slider, it seems to “wiggle” up and down relative to where I leave it. Power setting (performance, battery saver, hybrid) doesn’t seem to matter. Tried masking off the camera to see if it was trying to adjust to ambient lighting, no luck.

[SOLVED!] So just to help anyone having this issue, here’s what fixed if for me:

  • Dell model has a sensor independent of the camera, to detect finger touch on the keyboard, and this sensor illuminates the keyboard when a ham-handed operator’s hands are detected
  • When this setting is toggled to med or high, or the pc is (un?)folded into a tablet, the flickering stops
  • Uncertain if there is a GNOME configuration that might address this, or if it’s a known GNOME bug with this particular model of laptop (convertible)
