Solus stuck during Install

OK, that settles it. It is not an external disk problem, it happens with an internal disk.

Back to my three possible causes

  • a real bug in the Solus installer
  • you are making some mistake using the installer and you keep repeating that mistake
  • the flash drive is faulty or its downloaded content is corrupt

Can you try to sort those out please? eg make another flash drive … new drive new download

No, I still say you are missing the real issue “reconnection” does not matter if it is intrenal or external!!! Is “George1” trying to dual boot or is this a stand-alone install?

Standalone.

All tried. new live USB, different target (internal / external). It might be a bug.

You do realize Solus uses, what is called “clr-boot-manager” it is all automatic. With GPT/UEFI it defaults to “systemd-boot, with MBR/LEGACY it defaults to Grub2

Yes , I read that. I wonder what they will do now that Clear Linux is discontinues… will they continue to use its boot manager.?

What is “reconnection”… Oh you mean putting the drives back afterwards?
I think what you are saying is right… it could be misplacing the EFI file.
Would it do that if he tried to install to the internal drive?
He still has the error when he attempts to install to the internal drive.

I think we need to see a gparted output of what is on his internal and external disk, after the install fails.

It might be a Solus installer issue.
We still have to eliminate

  • you making a mistake doing the install
  • the issue @Daniel_Phillips raised of Solus installer getting confused with multiple disks.

Can you find a machine that only has one disk and test installing it there.?

Something is all wrong with this!!! Correct me if I am wrong!!! Tell me why George wants a stanalone Solus install from a SSD via a USB cable to the machine, using GPT and UEFI, WHY!!!

Sorry, but that does not make any sense at all !!! Install the SSD, start the Solus install, use gparted to create and install partitions, restart the installer, mount the partitions, install Solus.

If George uses this as a USB device then one would have to use something like Rufus, to make a persistance Solus install and this would need a pre-installed OS.

I am working on that, I will report back!!!

George is using a USB disk, but he is not putting an iso on it, he is installing to it, like you would to an internal disk… that is OK, you can use a usb drive like that, @Rosika does it.
Dont ask me why George wants Solus on an external drive , when he has an internal disk available. ? Perhaps George can explain.

Tried that with the second machine.

Well to have a portable install. I have a barebones mini PC. So I attached its SSD via USB and am installing from there on another device. Sadly MS, and I can’t switch to BIOS; UEFI mode is forced.

What exactly did you try and what was the result?

Does the Solus installsr start from within a live Solus?
If yes, try this

export LAX_DEBUG=true

before you run the installer

I no what George is doing wrong!!! I have Solus running!!!

Now what does he need to know!!!

That is odd and could be the root of the problem

That has nothing to do with the the issue!!!

If you really want to know, then explain what and how you are trying to boot Solus!!! I can then compare it with how and what it takes to get Solus running!!!

Sorry to disagree but if its a finish of the installation thats the issue when the grub boot is written and its an external media ……

Just my opinion

There has already been to many opinions!!! I have it installed and running, really nothing to it, just a few things that Solus requires!!! If George wants help, I am here, if not I will wipe Solus and forget the whole thing!!!
