Stale oranges for breakfast

Here in .au there are 2 varieties of Orange … Valencias ripen in Spring/Summer and Washington Navals ripen in winter. In Autumn there is a gap.
It is impossible to buy or grow a fresh orange anytime between February and May.
The orange I tried to eat this morning ended up in the chook scraps…recycled into eggs. Do I have to resort to buying juice or vitamin C tablets?

So what is wrong with our storage technology? We can send a space mission but we cant store an orange?

What happens overseas? Is there a ‘fresh orange gap’ in other countries?

Europe appears to import from the rest of the world, yes Spanish and Portuguese are the best for us due to the close by less transport. But usually the middle east is next. Suspect the price will change for those now.

Bananas are also imported and must be looked after differently for them to be shipped so far and still be good to eat.

The worry here now is eggs, hard to find at the supermarket and the price has doubled.
